Organisers of the Proms at St Jude’s Festival have announced opera star Lesley Garrett will star in this year’s performance.

The nine-day festival, in Hampstead Garden Suburb, will also include the Endellion String Quartet with clarinettist Michael Collins, pianist Llyr Williams and violinist Tasmin Little accompanied by pianist Piers Lane.

Proms spokesman Ron Finlay said: ‘We think there’s something for everybody in this year’s programme, and we are anticipating raising at least £50,000 for good causes.”

Proceeds from the festival will go to North London Hospice, which cares for people with life-limiting illnesses, and the Aspire project at Toynbee Hall.

The Proms will also include a LitFest weekend with authors such as Edna O’Brien, who wrote The Country Girls, financial and political journalist Hugh Pym and journalist Lynn Barber, whose memoir, An Education, was made into a film.

There will be a night of traditional jazz and eight guided heritage walks in and around Hampstead Garden Suburb and the city.

The Festival will take place from Saturday June 21 to Sunday June 29.

Online and postal booking opens on Monday March 31, although Friends of the Proms enjoy earlier priority booking.  To become a Friend, visit www.promsatstjudes.org.uk, or to make a telephone booking from Monday June 2 call 020 3322 8123.
