A group of mums have been training day and night to take on a charity walk from London to Brighton.

The six friends will take part in the 100km trek on May 24 to raise money for Anthony Nolan, the UK's blood cancer charity and bone marrow register.

Mother-of-two Colette Brohan, 34, of New Barnet, said: “I decided to do something for the charity after someone I have known for a long time was diagnosed with leukaemia.”

After a few phone calls to her friends and sister-in law, Debbie Brohan, Miss Brohan soon had a six-strong team eager to take part.

Miss Brohan, an administrator at Christ’s College, Finchley, said: “We all know somebody who has been affected by leukaemia so it’s very close to our hearts.

“We’ve been training really hard and are hoping to complete it in around 27 hours.

"It’s non-stop so it will be tough and I think it’s going to be very emotional – there’ll be lots of tears. But it will be amazing at the same time and a great achievement.”

The group, known as the WalkieTalkies, also includes Amanda Tompkins and Caroline Stevens, who both work as teaching assistants at Church Hill Primary School, Kim Hall, and Zoe Hart, who works at Monkfrith Primary School.

They have already raised £3,400 for the charity but are keen to raise even more before the big day in May.
