Politicians, charity supporters and campaigners came together to commemorate Margaret Thatcher’s 32 years as the Member of Parliament for Finchley.

Mike Freer, MP for Finchley and Golders Green, officially launched the event at South Hertfordshire Golf Club in Links Drive, Totteridge, on Saturday.

During the event, Mr Freer announced a new campaign to raise money for gardens at North London Hospice in Margaret Thatcher’s honour.

He said: “I think she would feel it would be a worthy tribute to her to create beautiful gardens to give peace and comfort for people at a difficult time in their lives.”

Paying tribute to Mrs Thatcher was her constituency secretary from 1970 to 1980, Lady Alison Wakeham MBE.

She told guests how much the support of her constituency of Finchley meant to Mrs Thatcher throughout her parliamentary career, which ended in 1992.

Mrs Thatcher was a supporter of the hospice, having visited the site in North Finchley before and after construction of the building.

A raffle and auction raised nearly £3,000 towards the Gardens for Patients Fund.

Donations to the campaign can be made out to the North London Hospice and sent to Margaret Thatcher Tribute Fund c/o, 212 Ballards Lane, Finchley, N3 2LX.
