Sangam Association of Asian Women praised by Samantha Cameron at Downing Street reception
Samantha Cameron praised the “amazing history” of an Edgware-based Asian women’s charity during a reception at Downing Street.
The Prime Minister’s wife met supporters and ambassadors of the Sangam Association of Asian Women to hear about how the charity helps Asian women having difficulty integrating into their new environment.
The charity, based in Burnt Oak Broadway, recently celebrated its 40th anniversary and helps more than 3,000 people every year.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Cameron said: “I first heard about Sangam last year and I was moved by the amazing history of a charity originally established in the 1970s by Asian women for Asian women.
“Sangam hasn’t been afraid to address difficult issues like poverty and domestic violence. It has continued to empower and support women and it is fantastic that you have been recognised so widely.”
