Police have arrested a teenager on suspicion of arson following a fire that closed part of the North Circular over the bank holiday.

Officers and 15 firefighters were called to a service road in Cricklewood at approximately 6.40pm on Monday, to a blaze involving a number of tyres.

Plumes of thick black smoke filled the air, causing police to close part of the North Circular and nearby roads until 9pm that evening.

A 15-year old-boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson and has been bailed to return in June.

Paramedics were also called to the scene, but no one was injured.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them immediately.
