Hundreds of people will dodge paint powder as they take on a 5K run to raise money for a hospice.

Anyone aged 11 or older can take part in the event which will start at 10.30am at the Furzefield Centre in Potters Bar on Sunday May 18.

Hertsmere Leisure, which manages the centre in partnership with Hertsmere Borough Council, set up the 5K run to raise money for the Peace Hospice Care, which supports people with life limiting illnesses and their families.

Peace Hospice Care provides a day service, inpatient care, home and supportive care including bereavement support. They also work with schools, colleges and care homes providing them with educational support.

Rob Dodkin, Hertsmere Leisure’s operations and events manager, said: “This is the ultimate fun run with a difference. At various points along the route volunteers throw coloured powder over the runners, with a different colour at each station so by the end each runner is covered in a multitude of bright rainbow colours.

“Spectators can also join in the fun by buying their own bag of coloured powder and throw this over the runners near the end.  The powder isn't harmful and will easily brush off but it is a brilliant way to keep active, have running goal to aim for and raise hundreds of pounds for Peace Hospice Care.

“This is the first big sport event Peace Hospice Care has done in the Potters Bar area so we hope people will come along and take part and cheer the runners on. You can run, walk, hop, skip, dance, twirl whatever you fancy, super fitness is certainly not required.”

Participants must sign in before the race from 9.30am, and register in advance by visiting www.peacehospicecare.org.uk.

Registration is £15 per adult and £8 for children (11-16), which includes a Rainbow Run T-shirt and sunglasses.
