Chairman of Green Party pays condolences following death of candidate
The chairman of Barnet’s Green Party has sent his condolences to the family of candidate Jessica Yorke after her death.
It is believed Jessica, who was standing in the Colindale ward, died several days ago following a long battle with cancer.
Andrew Newby, chairman of Barnet Greens and a candidate for Coppetts ward, said: “We have expressed out condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them.”
Barnet Borough Council has confirmed the cancellation of the poll in Colindale ward following the death.
A new election will be held in the ward within 35 working days of the May 22 election date, and all the other Colindale candidates will remain nominated.
Voting for the European Parliamentary elections will still go ahead and all polling stations in the ward will be open as planned.
