Footballers will be bending it like Beckham at a charity tournament to help save their club from closing.

The East Barnet Old Grammarians Football Club, in Alan Drive, is run entirely by volunteers - but members have admitted money is tight and it is under threat.

They will hold a 12-hour football marathon next Saturday, which will feature a bouncy castle, a barbecue and the England vs Italy world cup opener.

Member Sean Carroll, who has organised the event, said: “I, like many others have been very lucky to be a part of EBOG football club.

“Not only are we always competitive on the field, but we are arguably one of the best social clubs in amateur football. No matter past or present, we are like one big family.

“But over the past couple of years, we as a club have been struggling financially and the club will not survive if it continues this way.”

All donations from the event will go towards helping keep the club afloat.   It will be held on Saturday, June 14 from 8am to 8pm at the club’s grounds. For more information, visit www.ebog.co.uk or phone 01707 661722.
