Potters Bar Theatre Company sweeps the board at Barnet and District Drama Awards
A theatre company swept the board at an annual drama awards.
Potters Bar Theatre Company had 11 nominations and five silver trophies at this year’s Barnet and District Drama Awards
Its production of On Golden Pond was the reason for the huge success, with Robbie Crisp named best director, while her husband Mike Crisp was voted best actor and Val Golding best actress.
George Rowlands was joint winner of the best young actor award, and the award for best production of 2014 is also now proudly on display in the company's trophy cabinet.
Mrs Crisp, who has been a member of the company since 1976, said: “The outcome was everything I dreamed it could be. It’s one of the proudest moments of my life.”
On Golden Pond, written by Ernest Thompson, was made famous by the Oscar-winning film starring Henry Fonda and Katharine Hepburn.
It tells the story of Norman and Ethel Thayer and their relationships with their children as they spend their 44th summer vacation at their New England house.
The company staged its production at Wyllyotts Theatre in Potters Bar in February and March this year.
Mrs Crisp said: “I was enormously lucky to have such a talented and dedicated cast. Their ideas and contributions helped in so many ways when deciding what worked, and what didn’t. Mind you, it did feel a bit odd telling my husband to kiss my friend as if he really meant it – and deciding how long the kiss should last.”
