A table top sale helped raise £577 towards a community coffee bar at an Edgware church.

More than 200 people turned out to browse a variety of stalls selling everything from books and CDs to toys and jewellery at St Margaret's Church.

Visitors also enjoyed a selection of games, included guessing how many Roman tiles there are in the church tower, as well as a performance from the St Margaret’s bell ringers.

The proceeds will go towards building a new coffee bar, which is expected to cost just over £10,000.

Vanessa Bergman, who helped organise the event, said: “It was such a lovely day. The sun was shining and lots of people came out to support the cause.

“We already have some funding for the coffee bar from the Heritage Lottery Fund, but now we’re £577 better off which is great.

“The church is not just a place of worship – it’s the heart of the community and this event really showed that.”

St Margaret’s is already planning its next community events, including a flower festival on October 4 and 5.
