A builder and former pie shop owner will be remembered for his "generosity and kindness".

Sid Turner, of Ripon Way, Borehamwood, has died aged 71 after a long illness.

Originally from south east London, he later lived all over London before moving to Borehamwood with his wife Barbara.

The 71-year-old met Barbara Chambers in the early 1960s. They married in 1964 and started their life together in Islington. The couple later moved to Edgware, and finally settled in Borehamwood.

Together, Mr and Mrs Turner have three daughters and ten grandchildren.

Before going into the building and property business, for which he is well-known, Mr Turner owned and ran a family pie and mash shop in Burnt Oak.

His family say he was a “giant of a character” and will be remembered “not just for his love of family life but also for his generosity and kindness”.

His funeral will be held at 1pm on July 2, at Hendon Crematorium, with a wake being held after the service at The Royal British Legion building in Shenley Road, Borehamwood.
