Teenagers with learning disabilities said bonjour to Paris when they went on their first ever trip abroad with their school.

Six pupils from Kisharon Day School, in Golders Green, spent four days in the French capital to help them learn independence before leaving school.

The 19-year-olds were treated to trips to Euro Disney, the Eiffel Tower, a boat trip on the Seine and spent time in the Jewish quarter.

Teacher Lyna Panas, who helped raise the £5,000 needed to cover the costs, said: “The boys’ parents were really surprised when I told them about the trip.

“For some it was their first time abroad and they needed passports. The students behaved beautifully throughout the trip and it was a chance to learn or reinforce the skills needed to gain more independence.

“We encouraged them to look after their belongings – unpacking their own bags and hanging up and folding their clothes, and taking pride in their appearance.”

Money raised for the trip came from the community, family, friends and businesses.
