A drop-in centre will be opened to help people find out more about 6,000 new jobs to be created at Brent Cross.

The shopping centre, in Prince Charles Drive, Hendon, is due to double in size and the new one-stop recruitment shop has been launched by the Job Centre Plus and Barnet Borough Council.

The virtual shop has been created in response to a new wave of jobs that will be created as a result of the redevelopment of Brent Cross Cricklewood.

As well as 6,000 retail jobs, 1,500 construction jobs are available as well as new commercial office space.

The Job Shop aims to help people find work in their area once the shopping centre expands, and will also offer a jobs brokerage scheme.

People can also learn a new range of skills with the National Skills Academy for Retail, the Hospitality House and Barnet and Southgate College.

Retailers including Fenwick, Banana Republic, Mothercare, All Saints, Victoria’s Secret, Goldsmiths Jewellery will all look for new staff members.

Earlier this year, many people living near the centre expressed fierce opposition to the plans over claims the lack of transport links make it the “wrong place”.

However, Brent Cross bus station is due to be doubled in size and a new 'living bridge', a dual pedestrian and cycle crossing over the North Circular Road, will also be built.

Councillor Daniel Thomas, deputy leader of Barnet Borough Council, said: “The redevelopment of Brent Cross has opened up a whole host of opportunities within the borough and I am very keen that as many of our residents as possible get the chance to make the most of them.

“It has already proved popular with retailers in the current Brent Cross shopping centre and I am sure it will go from strength to strength.”
