Hertsmere swept the board at this year’s Green Flag awards ceremony in Broxbourne.

The borough was the pride of the county, as Hertsmere claimed more prizes than anywhere else in Hertfordshire, picking up a total of six awards.

The prizes celebrated the way in which Hertsmere's parks have been maintained, with Potters Bar’s Oakmere Park and Parkfield claiming victory at the event, as well as one park in Borehamwood and three in Bushey.

Parks Manager David Smith thanked volunteer groups, park staff and the grounds maintenance contractor John O’Conner for running facilities in the parks.

He said: “We are so proud of our green flags and couldn’t do it without the hard work and dedication of our amazing team, contractors, Hertsmere Leisure, which manages our parks events, and especially the community groups involved.”

Certificates and flags, which have to be displayed within each green space as part of the conditions of the award, were presented to representatives from each park by Paul Todd, Green Flag Award Scheme Manager at Keep Britain Tidy.

Councillor Jean Heywood said: “The contribution of our volunteers is particularly special and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone involved.”
