A man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after his car destroyed the front room of a house.

Neighbours in Capel Road, East Barnet, heard “three loud bangs” after the Ford Focus became crashed into the house at 11.30pm last night.

The 30-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, drink driving, possession of cannabis, committing grievous bodily harm and assaulting a police officer at the scene.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution before being transferred to a north London police station.

Samantha Dossett, who lives directly opposite the crash site, said: “I heard what sounded like three large bombs and looked outside. I couldn’t believe it – you expect to see that stuff on The Bill but not in your own street.

“My husband ran outside while I phoned the emergency services. My main concern was that everyone in the house was okay and safe.

“What makes it more horrific is that it’s a beautiful old Victorian house. It’s upsetting for the people who live there but luckily, there were no injuries. That’s a huge relief.”
