Wingate & Finchley moved eight points clear of the Ryman Premier relegation zone after a resounding 4-0 win at Carshalton Athletic on Tuesday.
The Blues, whose match on Saturday against Lowestoft Town was postponed, had goalkeeper Bobby Smith to thank in the opening stages as he denied Carshalton’s Billy Dunn and then Reece Hall.
Wingate had several chances of their own in the first half and Ahmet Rifat saw an effort blocked by goalkeeper Shaun Phillips before Daniel McGonigle headed onto the roof of the net.
Five minutes before the interval, Daniel Nielsen’s side broke the deadlock. Ola Sogbanmu finished following clever work from Rifat.
The opening period had been well contested but Wingate dominated the second half and added three further goals to their total.
Rifat slotted past Phillips after being set up by Tommy Tejan-Sie and, with 13 minutes remaining, Tejan-Sie was on the scoresheet as he headed into the net from ten yards.
Lewis Jones rounded off the victory as he tapped home after a calamitous error from Phillips on his own line.
