Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers had three gold medals winners at the British Championships in Birmingham this weekend, with Yamile Aldama, Zane Duquemin and Allan Smith tasting success.

There were also a further five medals winners for the club across the weekend at the Alexander Stadium.

Zane Duquemin took gold in the discus with a season's best distance of 60.38m on Sunday afternoon.

The 22-year-old finished 12 centimetres ahead of Brett Morse in second place and also beat club-mates Nicholas Percy (58.61m) in fourth, Angus McInroy (55.13m) in sixth place and seventh-placed Greg Thompson (55.04m).

An hour later, Smith came out on top in the men's high jump final with a height of 2.24m.

The 21-year-old Scot attempted 2.28m but could not make the height. Second-placed Chris Baker also managed 2.24m at the second attempt before falling short at 2.28m.

On Saturday, veteran Aldama won the triple jump as she continued her build-up to next month's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with England.

The 41-year-old took gold in the women's final with a distance of 13.60m in her sixth and final attempt, enough to see her finish two centimetres ahead of Laura Birchfield in second.

There were also silvers for Jade Lally in the women's discus and Dan Bramble in the men's long jump, whilst Sebastian Rodgers (400m hurdles), Nathan Fox (triple jump) and Louisa James (hammer) all came away with bronze.

Athletes finishing in the top two places in their events secured their place at the European Championships in Switzerland in August, qualifying automatically for the championships in Zurich.
