New bus service approved from Stanmore to Brent Cross

A NEW bus route will be introduced through the borough in October following strong support during a public consultation.

London Buses will bring in the 324 service between Stanmore Station and Brent Cross to include 760 households in the Colindeep Lane area, Colindale, who are not currently within 400m of a bus stop.

The service will run every 20 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes during the evening, seven days a week.

Almost 2,500 people responded to the consultation and figures show 80 per cent of people supported the proposals.

More than 68 per cent of people also said it would improve their bus journey.

A total of 344 objections were received from people living in the Stanmore area, many of which related to traffic congestion, dangers to pedestrians and the fact some roads were not wide enough, while others said the route was not needed because some areas were well served by existing routes.

Transport bosses said they made some changes to the initial proposals following the May 2009 consultation, which included using smaller single-decker buses and moving the southern terminus closer to the Tesco store, at Brent Cross.

John Barry, head of network development for London Buses, said: “London’s bus network is constantly under review to ensure we continue to provide the best possible service for passengers.

“The introduction of route 324 reflects Transport for London’s efforts to continually develop the network.”

Route 324 will be operated by London Sovereign. It will run from Stanmore Station via Stanmore town centre, Old Church Lane, Abercorn Road, St Andrews Drive, Culver Grove, Streatfield Road, Honeypot Lane, Kingsbury Road, Roe Green, Hay Lane, Edgware Road, Colindeep Lane, Watford Way, Hendon Way, Brent Cross Shopping Centre and will terminate at the Tesco store at Brent Cross.

I think that you will find that the Tesco store is at Brent Park, not Brent Cross.

SeaBee - The paper is correct. It is serving the Tesco at Brent Cross, on the other side of the shopping centre location, next to Toys R Us...

Personally I think the route is long overdue, although I dont see the logic in the route not serving Queensbury Station...

I bow to your superior knowledge oh wise one. Ever get the feeling that there are too many Tescos?

Why yes SeaBee....they are even taking over the petrol station stores too. Oh how they have grown from one store in Burnt Oak to having thousands - pardon the pun - all over the shop.

Forgot to add, if TfL are reading this cant they also extend the route to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Brockley Hill?! To rely on a cab from Stanmore Station, an hourly, infrequent bus service (615 Mon-Fri), or a long walk from the 142 maybe jumping on a 107 after getting off the 142 from Stanmore if you're lucky, is hardly making hospitals accessible to all - as promised in TfL's much touted report last year - from this side of the borough.
