A man who smashed up a McDonald's restaurant after he was refused service has been ordered to pay more than £1,000.

Michael Lee, 37, of Goswick Drive, Newcastle, was charged with criminal damage last month after smashing up a drive-through cubicle and the front door of McDonald's, in Darkes Lane, Potters Bar on January 28.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 10pm but Lee could not be found.

During an investigation CCTV images were released, and Lee was identified and later arrested.

Lee was ordered to pay £110 in damages and fined £75 by Hatfield Magistrates’ Court. He was also ordered to pay costs of £85, £20 victim surcharge and £938.49 in compensation.

PC Paul Francis from Hertsmere’s Safer Neighbourhood Team said; “We had a really good response from the public when we released the CCTV images and I’d like to thank everyone that contacted us. From the information received we were able to identify the offender and arrest him, and he has now faced the consequences of his actions.”
