I am often asked to give cookery demonstrations for charity events and it is always amazing to hear about the work that they do and to help them as best I can.

But Norwood have come up with a brilliant new idea – they are looking for people to have a dinner party at home with a difference. Called ‘Come Dine At Mine’ the idea is so simple that I had to try it for myself.

Last Saturday night I invited ten friends round for a Moroccan feast. I had told them in advance not to bring me, as hostess, any gifts but instead to make a donation of their choosing to Norwood, a charity that supports people with learning disabilities and children and families in need. As part of the scheme, Norwood provided me with a fundraising pack with menu ideas, how to donate, place cards and score cards allowing the guests to mark your meal out of 20- always likely to generate lively debate in my household !

Well, the sun was shining, canapés were served in the garden and the gourmet feast was a Moroccan’s dream. Everyone had a good time, and although it required quite a bit of effort on my part because of the adventurous nature of the menu, I thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and different spices. Oh and we raised nearly £600 from doing something that I would have done anyway – friends for dinner.
