For me, staying in on Saturday nights usually consists of generic family TV viewing and wholly unhealthy eating.
Neither of which offer much satisfaction nor benefit the environment in anyway.
However, this weekend, my lonely night in could turn into a massive multi-million person protest to raise awareness of environmental issues, which is slightly more inspiring than Casualty.
The World Wildlife Fund have arranged an initiative which is asking people to turn their lights and other electrical appliances off for one hour, as a demonstration in support of global action against climate change.
“Earth Hour” as it is being called, will take place between 8pm and 9pm on Saturday, with millions of people around the world expected to take part.
The hope is that by switching off sockets and lights, more people will switch on to green issues.
WWF-Australia in Sydney began the initiative last year, and saw 2.2 million people and more than 2,100 businesses turn their lights off across the city for one hour.
Amazingly, that resulted in a 10.2 per cent drop in energy consumption during that period, and an even higher number is hoped for this year.
So far, 24 major cities across the world have committed to take part in Earth Hour, so to help make a statement about the seriousness of climate change, flick the switch on Saturday.
Well that is a jolly good idea. But I must say I really do not like sitting in the dark. I find it a little depressing. Perhaps I could manage for one hour though.
