Please learn from my costly mistake

12:29pm Wednesday 4th July 2001

I am a lady of 73 who lives in a rented house located in a quiet residential area.

One Monday, at about 4pm, I was overcome by the heat and fell asleep, forgetting that I had left my front door open to allow a draught to enter the house.

A man (with heavy footsteps) entered my house and stole the major part of my Pension (£60) from my sideboard, I heard the entry but, sleepily, thought it was a neighbour whose front door is only about 12 feet away from mine.

Most people know not to do such a stupid thing as to leave the front door open, but I did not intend to actually drop off, only lie there.

If you wish to publish this letter, please feel free, because my mistake might prevent someone else suffering the same fate.
