I noted down three comments the Council Leader made at last nights Council meeting.
Council Business took up my whole day yesterday. I started off with a meeting with the Borough Commander at Colindale Police Station. This was followed by the annual Child’s Hill Ward walk with officers.
Well I am back from a rest from blogging. Last night’s Finchley and Golders Green Residents Forum galvanised me back into action.
The shepherd always tries to persuade the sheep that their interest and his are the same. Substitute hers for his and there you have the summary of what happened at Tuesday’s Council meeting. The Tory lambs returned to the fold so the council leader comfortably won the vote of confidence. I am reminded of the proverb “Who makes himself a sheep will be eaten by the wolves”.
August is traditionally the silly season in Politics. For Barnet this August was the very silly season. The antics of the Conservative Group dominated the headlines and monopolised the local blogs.
I have not needed to attend any meeting in the past couple of weeks. This does not mean I have not been out and about. This is the time of year for garden fetes and street parties.
I see our local bloggers and the local press has already given their slant on last night’s council meeting. I have never seen any thing quite like it. The Conservatives plumbed new depths. It was not just that they voted their leader and cabinet members an obscene pay rise but their behavior through out was appalling.
Tuesday was “planning night “at the Town Hall. All three planning sub committees met. I learned something new. The three committees rotate between using the Council Chamber, Committee room one, and Committee Room three. Not all on one evening but each four weekly cycle. I do not know which panjandrum thought this one up.
Over the past two weeks there has been little to report from Council meetings. But in case it is thought that all a councilor does is attend meetings at the Town Hall I can assure readers there is plenty of what we call casework to get on with. My two ward colleagues Cllr Susette Palmer and Cllr Monroe Palmer and I have been inundated with issues from residents.
We have a new chairman on the Finchley and Golders Green Planning sub Committee. Or, I should say that the previous vice chairman has swapped places with the previous chairman. Otherwise the make up of the Committee has not changed.
