Well I've picked up a bit of a lurgy, but have managed to drag myself off my deathbed to let you all know that there are some fine gigs coming up this week. Before we get to that though, I thought I'd share a little incident that will make you laugh (if you don't want to read my inane waffle and just want to find out about the gigs, skip down to below the dotted line).

This is all Dennis Signy's fault. In his latest blog he lists his new found admirers asking for his autograph. He then makes the outrageous claim "Signy 1 - rest of the bloggers 0". That is a challenge. Well it goes without saying that I have a whole army of admirers for my blog, and it seems Caron Kemp has quite a few (the good lady wife being one of them). What about our other esteemed blogger? Well I bumped into one of Mike Freer's last Wednesday on a Thameslink service. Now if you are Mike F, Rudy Vis, Brian Coleman or any of the other local dignitaries I've been a bit mean to sit back and enjoy. I got my comeuppance big time.

As I sat back into my seat, on the train back to Mill Hill, a rather feisty lady of indeterminate age fixed me with a beady stare. "Excuse me, do you write a blog on the Times website". Thrilled to be recognised I coyly replied "Erm yes". Big Mistake. "Well I think your column is disgusting. All of the constant references to getting drunk. You are setting a very bad example". I replied "Oh I'm sorry if that offends you, it is meant to inject some humour...". I was cut off. "Humour is not boasting about being constantly sloshed". She continued "I suppose you're drunk right now are you?". Actually I'd just been for a rather belated birthday lunch with some friends at "The Dovetail", a rather good Belgian Beer Bar in Jerusalem Passage. "Well, I've had a couple with my lunch". She interjected "I might have known, I suppose that is why your grammar is so appalling". I responded "Actually, that's because I'm mildly dyslexic". She was having none of it "Dyslexic, in my day we called it stupid". She was clearly not someone infected with the modern day affliction of political correctness. "And I suppose you think you're clever always criticising the council and writing rubbish about Brian Coleman". At this I thought I'd try and inject a little humour (another big mistake). I asked "You're not Councillor Coleman's mum are you". She spat back "She's over 80, do I look over 80?". I meekly responded "Of course not". I was on the back foot now "As for your comments a while back about Mike Freer, disgusting". I asked "Well do you enjoy his blog?". She responded "Of course I do, he has something interesting to say". Anyway, I thought I'd try one last ploy "Don't you like any of my blogs". She responded "No, they are all complete rubbish". This was my chance "So you've read them all? I think you secretly like them, don't you". At this she noticed my reading material "Ah so you read the Guardian, typical, you lot all want everyone to love you". I replied "Well I've got the Daily Express as well here". She spat back at me "I suppose you realise that is published by a pornographer?". By now half a carriage full of people were looking at me and smirking. At this she picked up her Daily telegraph and I ceased to exist. I have no idea who the lady in question was, but if I was in the Barnet Tory party, I know what job I'd offer her. If it was down to me I'd give her a blog as well !!!!

Good point. If that is the case, Mike must take after his Dad :^}

No wonder he hasn't told her he's really a Brownite !!!!
