Save Claremont Road

A group set up to stop the redevelopment of the iconic and treasured Claremont Road stadium, and to stop the dangerous precedent of improper removal of covenants from public land which has been set by Barnet Council.

It is seven years since I alerted the District Auditor to the malfeasance at Barnet Council (LBB). You may disagree with my dislike of turning football pitches into housing. You may condone the intended theft by LBB of fields it holds on trust for the community on the ground that, since LBB is a public authority, it can tear up trust deeds in the interests of the community. I disagree with this counter-argument but respect your right to hold that view.

The DCLG should rethink the proposed redraft of planning law PPG17. The suggestion that local Demand and Supply analysis, sport by sport, should be undertaken is an expensive waste of time and a logical nonsense.

The convention in public debate is to assume that our political leaders and their support staff are all blessed with optimal levels of intelligence. If this convention applies to local council workers and elected councillors, presumably doctors would claim an even stronger entitlement. But are they so justified? Should this convention be respected?
