Leading estate agent Hamptons International is proud to be a sponsor of Open Garden Squares Weekend 2017, taking place on 17th and 18th June. With over 200 of London’s secret, or little known gardens involved, this exclusive annual event displays London’s finest green patches not usually open to the public. The gardens range from traditional garden squares to quirky roof gardens and this year the garden of Number 10 Downing Street, the official residence and office of the Prime Minister, is available to visit via public ballot.
Running since 1998, the weekend is run almost entirely by volunteers, with Hamptons International having been a sponsor for several years. A perfect family day out, entrance is free to children under the age of twelve, with younger visitors to be entertained by a range of activities. Also on offer will be guided walks, poetry performances and live music in London’s exclusive squares and private green space.
Lesley Cairns, Managing Director of Hamptons International comments: “It is wonderful to once again be supporting a cause which displays London’s gardens in all their splendour, especially as this much loved event grows larger each year, with more to see, do and watch than ever before.”
“Ed Ikin, Chair of the London Parks & Gardens Trust, organisers of the event says: “Open Garden Squares Weekend is about enjoyment and discovery. From the historical and prestigious to the experimental and innovative a single weekend ticket is your key to discovering some of the city’s most magnificent and diverse gardens and cultivated spaces. We have gardens on barges, in train stations and in skips, as pop-up orchards, beside churches and schools. Alongside London’s premier garden squares there are edible, medicinal, historical, ecological and reclaimed brown-field sites. Ultimately, the Weekend is a fantastic opportunity to see London’s ability to grow in extraordinary spaces.”
