ORGANISERS of Speen's Magical Millennium Fete are delighted after smashing their target to raise £2,000 for two local charities.
Planning for the event started at the beginning of this year but a last minute hitch meant a marquee was hired just days before the event.
But according to one Speen fete committee member, Suzi Rose, it was all worth it as the big day, held on the Speen playing fields, Hampden Road, raised an impressive £3,000. She said: "As any fete organiser knows, much debate, planning, further discussion and hard work goes into a successful day and the Speen team put its heart and soul into this year's event.
"Friends, neighbours, relatives and work colleagues found themselves caught up in the enthusiasm to raise money so that the grand draw, tickets and programmes sold like hot cakes prior to the big day."
But hardy revellers had to brave an early July downpour that left many attractions temporarily washed-out.
The skies, however, cleared for a successful run of classic cars. The two charities to benefit from the cash are The South Bucks Hospice and Wycombe General Hospital's Paediatric Ward.
