Young book lovers will have the chance to trade their top titles for new reads this month as the London Children’s Book Swap arrives in North Finchley.

Now in its fourth year, the book exchange promises an action-packed day for children to enjoy where they can trade in their used books for free.

The bartering takes place on Valentine’s Day at a host of venues across the capital, with artsdepot joining in the fun this year.

Book swappers can also make their own Valentine’s bookmark to take home for their new tales.

Kerry Andrews, artistic director of the award-winning artsdepot, says: “London Children’s Book Swap will see artsdepot become a hive of bookswapping activity. The day is tremendous fun; it really helps to inspire a love of reading among children and also encourages them to share the stories they’ve enjoyed with others.

“We look forward to welcoming young readers to artsdepot.”

Organised by Discover Children’s Story Centre, the event joins a variety of schemes to develop young people’s enthusiasm for the written word.

Last year’s swap was a great success with more than 2,000 books exchanged across London, encouraging families to enjoy reading together.

It will follow National Libraries Day, celebrated this Saturday, February 7, for avid readers to champion their local library service.

Next up, on Thursday, March 5, is the much-loved children’s favourite World Book Day, when school pupils don fancy dress and share their favourite stories with each other.

The event is just one in a programme of many activities provided by artsdepot for school pupils during the half term break. For a full list see the website.
