Frame it, put it in a box or splash it over the walls, art will come out in some form or another if the talent is there.

After enjoying painting at school, Carron Murphy left Ireland to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland in Watford, where she spent 27 years before retiring two years ago to give her passion for painting full rein, and embarked on an art and design course at West Herts College.

Prior to this, Carron let loose her creative side on the annual art exhibition held at the bank, and through building up experience in interior decorating, she was dubbed the lady decorator. She has been advising on colour schemes and tackling a range of DIY jobs for friends and family over the past 20 years.

Having graduated from her studies and gained practical skills, Carron has found the time to build up a body of work in her home studio in north Bushey and is now holding her first solo exhibition at The Radlett Centre.

Carron initially worked in watercolours creating landscapes and seascapes based on locations in her native Ireland as well as across the United Kingdom. In more recent years, she has developed her skills in oils and acrylics on canvas focusing on bright floral studies as well as very contemporary styles and shapes. A keen gardener, when time allows, Carron visits the annual flower shows at RHS Chelsea and Hampton Court for inspiration.

“I work in a variety of media and for this exhibition will be showing original pieces from two of my ranges – firstly, seven studies of flowers in acrylic in bold colours on large canvas and secondly, 15 contemporary collages using items from the world of nature such as sand-blasted glass and tiny shells from the beaches in San Tropez along with seaweed from the coast of Antrim.”

The show is at The Radlett Centre, Aldenham Avenue, Radlett until Saturday, March 27, open 10am to 4pm.
