Break out the butterbeer, pull on your most colourful woolly jumper and get ready to have a spell cast over you this festive season by Hogwarts in the Snow.

Warner Bros has waved its wand over The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour in Leavesden and sprinkled it with a Dumbledore-worthy dusting of Christmas magic.

The breathtaking castle, that we all know so well from the films, has been covered in a blanket of snow to recreate, for the first time, the iconic wintery look the school of wizarding wowed us with on screen.

And the intricately-detailed sets have been given a makeover using the actual decorations and food props seen in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

I went along to get a sneak peak at the transformation and find out if the experience was as exciting as a Quidditch quarter final or as dull as a Dursley.

They've certainly set the scene from the off, with a huge shimmering Christmas tree towering over the foyer. At the start of the tour you are taken into a cinema where trio of heroes Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint give a little introduction, which was a nice touch.

Then it was time to step inside the Great Hall which has been lined with eight Christmas trees and festooned with holly, mistletoe and golden wreaths. The two long dining tables have been dressed for a seasonal feast with prop versions of turkeys, hams, fruit, vegetables, plum puddings and snow cakes with snowmen 'dancing' on top of them.

I felt like a child again as all the warm, fuzzy memories of that first time you watched the film came flooding back.

Our squeals of glee came bursting out as the tour continued and we got to sup on butterbeer, 'fly' in the Weasley's Ford Anglia, knock on the door of Privet Drive and stroll down Diagon Alley.

There is also a mind-blowing array of costumes, props and special effects models from all of the films on display, allowing you to get up close to items such as the Goblet of Fire, discover the secrets behind how they created ‘invisible Harry’s’ footprints in the snow and step inside Dumbledore’s office to get a closer look at the sleeping potraits.

The sheer amount of detail will leave your eyes spinning more wildly in your head than Mad Eye Moody's.

I don't want to give too much away about all the amazing things you will see but I will tell you that for the special Christmas edition the Gryffindor common room and dormitories have been decked out in Christmas glory and visitors can see the hand-knitted jumpers that Molly Weasley gave Ron and Harry for Christmas in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Other costumes on display include the first Christmas present Harry received at Hogwarts - his Invisibility Cloak - and the dress Luna Lovegood wore to the Slug Club Christmas party in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The grand finale of the tour is, of course, the huge model of the Hogwarts castle, which staff spent a week sprinkling with fake snow by hand, to great effect, and the sight of which will fill you with joy.

If this experience doesn't make you feel ready for Christmas then nothing will.
