Like many other young students, Jack Kendall from Rickmansworth went off to university to study film, his head full of dreams of being a filmmaker.

Nine years later and, like not too many other young students, Jack is now running his own music video production company with his brother and needs your help to make his next dream come true – producing his first narrative short film.

Jack, 27, and his brother Dan, 30, want to produce Stationary, a 20-minute film about four friends, reunited for the first time since one of them went away to university, waiting at a train station after a night out.

They annoy each other, run out of beer, hold a funeral for a dead gerbil, and discuss post-night-out-kebab etiquette, the fast food illuminate, and the rubbish bits of Jack Kerouac.

“It’s a coming-of-age comedy drama about growing up and taking responsibility for your life,“ explains Jack. “It’s going to be in black and white. There are different scenes of them at the train station. It’s dialogue-driven, a bit like a Richard Linklater film, and it could just as easily have been a play.“ Jack and Dan have come up with a budget of £5,000 to shoot the film, which they hope to film at Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Quainton. Half of that amount will go towards hiring the centre.

“The film is set at 2am and, instead of faking it, we actually wanted to film it at that time, to get the atmosphere,“ says Jack, “so we have to rent out the station from 2am to 7pm for five days.“ The rest of the money will go towards hiring the filming equipment and the associated insurance and VAT costs.

There are incremental ‘rewards’ for people who pledge money to the project – from a download of the film and a T-shirt or poster all the way up to an executive producer credit – if you can promise the up coming filmmakers £1,000.

“When it’s filmed, we’re going to submit it to every single film festival we can, and then show it all the channels, BBC and Channel 4 and everybody. It’s going to be a really good film.“
