Harpenden's Lea Singers flourish under new young conductor Benjamin Goodson
11:44am Wednesday 12th December 2012 in Freetime By Rosy Moorhead
The ever-popular Lea Singers’ Christmas concert returns to Harpenden Public Halls next week, with carols, mulled wine and mince pies.
The programme is a mix of traditional Christmas carols, unaccompanied choral works, Christmas glitz, fanfares and exuberant brass sets from the Bold as Brass Ensemble.
Benjamin Goodson, from Potters Bar, is the choir’s new conductor, having taken over the role a year ago while studying music at Hertford College, Oxford. His fresh outlook has already had an impact and he has big plans for the group.
“I have a choir development plan in my mind as to how I want their sound to develop,” says the 21-year-old. “They always had a very beautiful sound and there are some very good singers, but now I want to get the sound richer and fuller. I have a sound in my mind which I’d like them to produce in three years’ time and everything we do is a step towards achieving that.”
