Back in 1974 The Allman Brothers stepped onto the stage for the first ever live music gig at Knebworth House.

This summer it is celebrating 40 years of hosting some of the worlds most legendary, ear-rocking, body-popping concerts, as well as starring in music videos such as The Simple Minds’ Don’t You Forget About Me, used in cult movie The Breakfast Club.

To celebrate we want readers to send in their favourite photographs and memories of gigs at Knebworth.

Email laura.enfield@london.newsquest.co.uk or post on our Facebook page.

Knebworth is marking the anniversary by expanding its existing collection of memorabilia with rare and exclusive items, encompassing the histories of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, 10cc, Frank Zappa, Lynrd Skynyrd, Devo, Genesis and more, and this special exhibition will be opened to the public from July 8 to August 31 following this year's Sonisphere.

The music festival, which returns on July 4-6 after being cancelled last year, also wants to pay tribute to some of the magically moment over the last four decades, such as Led Zepplin, Oasis and Robbie William's, via a worthy covers band, and is asking for submissions.

If you play in or know of a suitable covers band that you think should make the cut, tag them on Sonisphere's Facebook page or email a suitable link to sonispherefestivals@kililive.com before May 15.

It is also hosting a series of Classic Album Sundays sessions in partnership with Jagermeister at this year's event with festival goers will be able to enjoy albums from all three of this year’s headliners, plus other legendary albums by bands from the rich 40 year history of Knebworth. Titles will include Iron Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, Prodigy's Fat of the Land, Metallica's Metallica (The Black Album) and more to be announced, with an introduction to each by a suitably passionate expert before the playback.
