Croxley actor takes the lead

Rikki Lawton from Croxley stars in Sonning farce Rikki Lawton from Croxley stars in Sonning farce

Watch out for the name Rikki Lawton, because the Croxley Green actor is going places. He is currently playing the lead in Cash on Delivery, a farce written by Michael Cooney (son of the king of farce Ray Cooney), which is being performed at The Mill at Sonning. The play is full of lies, mistaken identities, dressing up and everything goes wrong.

“It’s very similar to Fawlty Towers,“ Rikki says of the fast-paced show.

Starring in a production is an impressive feat from someone who only graduated from Guildhall School of Acting last year, but since he left with first-class honours, perhaps we shouldn’t be too surprised. Rikki won Critics’ Choice at his third year showcase and his credits while training include Sandy in Epsom Downs and Tone in Hard Feelings. He was the winner of the prestigious Carleton Hobbs award and joined the BBC Radio Drama Company where he featured in productions alongside Bill Nighy, Alison Steadman and Brian Cox. His theatre credits include The Edge at Theatre 503 and the Time Out Critics’ Choice production of King John at the Union Theatre, directed by Phil Willmott.

With all these accomplishments under his belt you’d be forgiven for thinking it’s all gone to his head but the fact he doesn’t give his ego free reign has to be Rikki’s most admirable quality.

“I’m proud of my achievements, but I just don’t really think about them. I’ve been really lucky.“ Modest he may be, but he does have high ambitions. “I’d love to perform somewhere like the National Theatre or The Globe.“ Most of all though, he just wants to “keep on being lucky“.

The show runs at The Mill At Sonning, Sonning Eye, Reading from June 28 to August 18. Details: 0118 969 8000.
