Personal Overview - His political experience includes having been a local Councillor in the Hendon area as well as having been a party agent in a number of campaigns across the country. Within the Council he held several senior positions including Deputy Council Leader and was also the Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport.

Characteristics - Has been a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, in 2005 he undertook a 2,000 km exploration of the Libyan Desert. He is a keen sailor, having taken part in the Round the Island race off the Isle of Wight for many years as a part of the Welsh Harp's Seahorse Sailing Club. He has also scuba dived in many parts of the world including, several Mediterranean countries, the Caribbean, the Maldives, in the English Channel, off the coast of Cornwall and various quarries and lakes in Lancashire and Cumbria. He has also travelled extensively around the countries of the EU.

Personal Overview - Entered the London Assembly in 2012 winning this seat from the Conservatives after having lost his Westminster seat in 2010 by only 106 votes. He comes from a legal background, specialising in representing injured workers (and their Trade Unions). Prior to entering the London Assembly he also campaigned for the rights of ordinary people to obtain legal redress in the courts as a Co-ordinator of the Access to justice Action Group. He has leadership experience in Local Government (previously Labour Group Leader on Westminster City Council). He has been a member of Action for Southern Africa, the Co-operative Party and the Society of Labour Lawyers. His legal experience also gives him an interest, and probably a certain amount of expertise in civil justice issues. Demonstrated an interest in Jewish affairs in the Westminster Parliament, making a call for legislation to allow for easier remarriage for Jewish women. He also focussed on the campaign to rebuild Edgware Hospital which was completed in 2005. As Chairman of the Joint Committee on Human Rights he was involved in producing reports on the role of business and human rights in the developing world and on the issue of a Bill of Rights for the UK.

Previous Occupation - Former Parliamentary Researcher and Special Advisor to Sean Woodward MP (As Northern Ireland Secretary). Worked for the international development charity ActionAid UK as a Government Relations Adviser.

Personal Overview - Elected from 4th place on Labour's London list in 2014, in what was a good year for the party in the capital. He has a career background working in the charity sector in a public affairs role for ActionAid, a charity which is primarily focussed on global poverty issues. He has also spent time as a Special Advisor to the last Labour Government on Northern Ireland in a role which involved trying to bring together historically divided communities. He is originally from South London and has been a Labour Party member from the age of 16, having campaigned for the party at both local and national elections.
