Personal Overview - Senior Haringey Councillor and inveterate Lib Dem candidate for the constituency she has now won in 2005. Her success third time sees her oust former Labour Minister Barbara Roche and represents one of the strongest Liberal performances across the Capital. Her previous political incarnations have seen an ongoing interest in Transport matters; she derided the PPP for London's Underground as being a £1 billion waste of money. She also established Buswatch, a local resident group to campaign for improved bus links in the Haringey area. Has written a political blog of her work in the London Assembly, which drew praise from the Guardian's Political Blog of the Year Awards. Became a Shadow Home Affairs Spokesman shortly after entering Parliament, with responsibility for London. She was promoted into the Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet in June 2007. Personal Overview - Newly elected in 2004, she replaced the outgoing Labour member Nicky Gavron in this closely contested seat. With a legal background as a barrister, she was involved in establishing a local chambers in Enfield in the early 1990s and has been an adjudicator dealing with disputes between landlords and tenants for the Housing Ombudsman. She has experience of being a local Councillor and has been the Enfield representative on the Local Authority Forum of the London Arts Board. She has also taken an interest in child care issues, a working mother herself , she has chaired Enfield's Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership (the body responsible for nurseries, playgroups etc). She has also shown an interest in issues relating to the environment, planning policing and the North Circular Road. Within the Assembly, she was previously the former London Mayor's (Ken Livingstone) E-Envoy.
