I'm writing to complain about your headline, Fine is overturned after driver pleads ignorance' (Times Series, May 1).

Your reporter states in the article that "Barnet Council had previously stood by the £100 it had fined Anil Patel" and then goes on to say, "but after an appeal by Andrew Dismore, Labour MP for Hendon, the council backed down and cancelled the fine".

Anybody who has had dealings with the council, or regularly reads your newspaper, knows only too well how rigid and unsympathetic it can be.

It's more than obvious in this case that if Mr Dismore had not become involved, the council would most certainly not have overturned the fine.

The headline should have read, "Fine is overturned after Hendon MP's appeal against council's ridiculous decision".
