A dementia awareness campaigner from Potters Bar is setting up a new café to raise money for dementia nursing.

Lorri Connors, owner of All Engage Limited, a company which gives support to those with dementia, is setting up the Nightingale Café in Brookmans Park.

The café, which will offer home-made cakes and freshly brewed tea, will be officially opened by Grant Shapps MP this afternoon.

The 1940s-style cafe will raise money for Admiral Nurses, dementia nurses provided by charity, Dementia UK.

The launch of the café coincides with All Engage Limited’s announcement that Hertfordshire is to get its first Admiral Nurse.

Ms Connors said: “It’s great news to see the appointment of the first dedicated nurse for Hertfordshire who will help families, caregivers and those affected by a diagnosis of dementia by providing practical and emotional support.

“By setting up the Nightingale Café at Brookmans, we’re hoping to draw people’s attention to the scale of the problem and also help raise vital funds to extend the service our first Admiral Nurse can provide to the local community.

“We really hope as many people as possible will come down to support us and have a wonderful afternoon out as well.”

The Nightingale Café will be open from 2pm to 6pm today at Brookmans in Brookmans Park.
