Barnet Council’s gritting fleet has officially been put on standby for the first time this winter.

The council has confirmed that ahead of predicted cold weather over the weekend it has put its gritters on standby.

This comes as the Met Office has forecasted that temperatures will fall to lows of one degree centigrade in Barnet on Friday and Saturday nights.

Daytime temperatures by the end of the week are not expected to exceed six degrees.
