A car sent letters sprawling when it smashed into a post box earlier this afternoon.

Police were called to Friern Barnet Lane, next to Friary Park, after the red Royal Mail box received the unexpected delivery of a silver Ford Focus.

Officers have closed one lane of the road while they clear the scene, at the junction with Park Way, though it is not thought anyone was injured in the collision.

At least ten police officers are at the scene directing traffic.

One eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said: “It looks like someone just took the corner too fast. It is an extraordinary thing to see. It’s as if someone was driving to the post box in a hurry but got there a little too quick.”
