Members of a Royal British Legion branch are hoping its annual Christmas fair this weekend will raise the club’s profile and boost membership in the new year.

The North Finchley branch, in Legion Way, off Summers Lane, is holding its festive fair on Saturday featuring the usual stalls, sweets and yuletide games.

But organisers are hoping the event will publicise the more regular activities run by the committee and encourage some of the younger generation to get involved.

Saturday’s fair, held between 10am and 2pm, will be opened by Barnet’s GLA member Andrew Dismore and profits will be put back into the club.

Branch member Hayes Rees said: “We’re trying to get more people, and particularly younger people, involved in the legion as they are the future.

“This Christmas fair will raise money to keep the club going and it is an important event in the calendar. The legion is a lovely establishment and we want to get people down here to see what we can offer.”

Saturday’s fair includes a licensed bar, stalls selling crafts, sweets and cakes and a visit from Father Christmas.
