More than 400 mourners turned out to pay their respects to much-loved Finchley character Horace White in October.

The popular 54-year-old’s family said they were touched by the level of public support as mourners packed out the chapel at Islington Cemetery in East Finchley.

In other news, plans were unveiled for a multi-million pound residential development at the Metropolitan Police’s Peel Training Centre in Colindale.

The force is looking to sell off a large part of the site to save cash and raise money.

October also brought the tragic death of Hilary Lee, a mother-of-two who was hit by a lorry in High Barnet.

The 66-year-old’s husband later paid tribute to his beloved wife, describing the pain of losing her as “unbearable”.

The 45-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been bailed until February.

The Times Series also broke the news that Councillor Brian Coleman faced suspension from Barnet Council's Conservative group after being charged with assault.

The Totteridge representative was later suspended from the national party over the charges, which related to an incident in North Finchley High Road earlier that month.

The former GLA member faces a trial in the new year.
