Five people including a child were rescued by firefighters when a blaze broke out in a second-floor flat on New Year’s Eve.

One woman was rescued from the flat where the fire broke out and three adults and one child were led to safety from a neighbouring flat.

Four fire engines and about 20 firefighters from Mill Hill, Finchley and Hendon were called to the address in Falcon Way, Colindale, at 7.45pm.

The woman was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene by London Ambulance Service staff and fire crews had the blaze under control by 8.30pm.

An investigation is under way into the cause of the fire, which left the flat partly damaged.
