A former North Finchley gym says it will try to find new jobs for staff after the club suddenly closed over the festive period.
Staff turned up to work at Fitness First in High Road on Christmas Eve to discover the club was closing down that day.
Fitness instructors were told to finish training by 2.30pm and pack up their belongings as treadmills and other training equipment were hauled from the building.
Members complained they only received a letter telling them about the closure on Boxing Day.
A spokesman for Fitness First said: "After months of negotiations a last-minute decision by the landlord meant that it was with great regret that we had no other option than to close the club. Up until this point, negotiations to remain the leaseholder had been going well.
“The decision was not taken lightly and we are now taking measures to place employees at our other London clubs where possible."
He added that memberships have not been terminated and gym-goers can transfer to another Fitness First club.
The club has been taken over by New Fitness Exchange which plans to refurbish the building before opening on Monday January 14.
