A new headteacher at a Hendon primary school says he is looking forward to the “exciting challenge” that awaits him.
Alan Shaw was yesterday named as the new head of Hasmonean Primary School in Shirehall Lane, and will start the job in September.
He will take over from current headteacher Jenny Rodin, who is retiring from the role after 21 years.
Mr Shaw, who has worked as the headteacher at Moriah Jewish Day School in Pinner for the past 15 years, said: “She has done tremendous things and will be a tough act to follow but I will do my best.
“I have very mixed emotions as I’ve had 15 years at my current school and have enjoyed my time here. But I feel I’m ready for a fresh start and I’m looking forward to an exciting new challenge.
“Everyone needs something new and I’m looking to move onwards and upwards.”
Former Ofsted inspector Mr Shaw has been headteacher at the Moriah School since it opened in 1998 and previously worked at the Ilford Jewish Primary School.
The Moriah School was recently ranked 51st in a list of the top-performing state primary schools in the country by the Department for Education.
Hasmonean Primary School says Mrs Rodin will not speak publicly about her retirement until nearer the time.
