A film-maker from Golders Green is a step closer to hitting the big screen in Hollywood after reaching the finals of an international competition.

Laura Evers Johns, 31, of North End Road, is one of nine finalists who will pitch their film ideas to judges at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire on Saturday.

The winner of The Pitch competition will receive £25,000 to go to Hollywood where they will produce their movie. They will also get advice from industry professionals including Ralph Winter, producer of X-Men and Fantastic Four.

Miss Evers Johns, who currently works as a copywriter, said: “Film-making is my dream – I’ve made a couple of short films already and I’d love to be able to do it full-time.”

“I entered this competition because I like to be creative and have a goal to work towards.”

Each applicant was asked to come up with a short film idea based on the Bible.

Miss Evers Johns said: “I decided to focus on the Magi who are commonly known as the three wise men in the nativity scene. It’s a sci-fi idea with three astronauts who are going to witness the birth of a star.”

Miss Evers Johns has previously been short listed for the Virgin Media Shorts 2011 award and is currently making a documentary film for Phoenix Futures charity to raise awareness about drug and alcohol addiction.
