Barnet’s GLA member is holding his own public meeting on police station closures after labelling an official consultation into the plans “a farce”.

Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime Stephen Greenhalgh will hold a one-hour meeting with members of the public at Hendon Town Hall on Monday to discuss the draft Police and Crime Plan.

The papers set out the policing strategy in the capital over the next four years as the Metropolitan Police looks to save £500million by 2015.

Included in the draft, published on Monday, are plans to close Barnet and Whetstone police stations in a bid to save costs.

Labour politician Andrew Dismore says he is so angered by the length of Monday’s meeting that he has arranged his own public consultation immediately afterwards.

The meeting will be co-hosted with colleagues from the London Assembly and members of the Barnet Labour group.

The official Police and Crime Plan consultation will begin at 6pm at Hendon Town Hall, in The Burroughs.

Oh dear, another Tory 'consultation' like the Barnet council ones!

This is shocking - first Barnet council abandoned the High Streets and went on to asset strip them through their parking policies. Now the GLA are joining in and doing the same.

High Barnet will lose the PCSOs who patrol the High Street and do a fantastic job keeping crime down in the shops. And the station - another nice little asset to strip for a property developer to make huge profits at residents expense.

What a grubby little nation we've become!
