East Barnet School has received a top award for its "rigorous" coaching system for students and staff.

The school in Chestnut Grove is just one of three schools in the country to receive a silver award by Coachmark, the national quality mark for coaching in education.

Headteacher Nick Christou said: “Our philosophy is all about supporting students and staff to perform at their best.

"These awards, along with the fantastic ethos of our school and the excellent examination results we have achieved in the past few years, demonstrate what a special learning community we have at East Barnet.”

The school has a special system whereby everyone has a coach they can go to for advice on anything from improving the way they work to revision techniques or work experience.

Will Thomas, co-director of Coachmark, said: “The commitment to excellence, learner progress and supporting high quality professional development is embodied in the achievement of this award.  It is a rigorous process which endorses East Barnet's passion for getting the very best for their students.”
