Plans for a bench dedicated to well-known Finchley street personality Horace White will go before the council this week.

An online petition gathered 6,000 web signatures calling for the memorial in honour of Horace, who was well-known in North Finchley.

The 54-year-old could often be found chatting to passers-by outside shops.

More than 10,000 "Liked" a Facebook page entitled RIP Horace, which was set up after he suddenly collapsed and died outside the Whittington Hospital last September.

Councillor Arjun Mittra will ask for the bench to be installed as part of improvement works in North Finchley.

He said: “I used to get the bus and I’d see Horace in North Finchley just like everyone else. He was most famous for sitting outside McDonald’s saying his trademark ‘best of luck' to people. A lot of people knew him."

Cllr Mittra will raise the matter at the Finchley and Golders Green area environment sub-committee meeting at St Michael’s Church Hall in The Riding, Golders Green at 7pm on Wednesday.
