Several inches of snow covered Barnet today, wreaking havoc on the borough’s busy roads and causing schools to close early.
Snowfall began shortly after 9.30am in some parts of the borough and a thick coating has since engulfed streets and pavements.
Commuters felt severe disruption on the Northern Line, though the line is currently operating a good service according to Transport for London.
Gritting lorries will be out this afternoon and this evening, spreading more of the council’s 2,000 tonnes of salt reserves.
A total of 61 of the boroughs 111 primary and secondary schools closed early, with many more inviting parents to collect their children earlier than the standard closing time.
Current forecasts predict more snow over the weekend and into Monday.
